I don’t know about you, but to me this winter felt like it would never end. I was seriously itching for a taste of summer so Nick and I booked a weekend getaway with two of his brothers to Fort Lauderdale, FL.
Luckily Nick’s dad lives down there so we had a place to stay… and it’s across the street from Pompano Beach. Not a bad set up if you ask me. Since we were only there for the weekend I was not trying to waste any time when it came to getting some sun.
I forgot how much I love being outside in that type of weather. Mid-eighties and sunny. Bit humid, but I actually like it sometimes.
It was so nice to feel the sun on my face. Even though it’s been warming up a little in New York, we’ve had mostly overcast weather. I gotta say, after spending so much time under gray skies you really do feel the effects of that fresh vitamin D.
That evening Nick’s dad and girlfriend took us to dinner at their favorite restaurant – Mario’s Catalina Restaurant. It’s a Cuban restaurant in Fort Lauderdale. I’ve never had Cuban food before. Next time I do I’m going back to Mario’s.
From the minute we got there we were treated like family. We were met by the manager and brought to a prime table. Since I wasn’t the only one who was new to this type of cuisine the manager had an appetizer platter filled with deliciousness brought out.
I was already won over by this point, but the entrees sealed the deal. We all basically shared everything and since there were so many of us we got to try most of the things on the menu.
We also had a bottle of wine or two… or three…
Really though it was a great night and a great weekend. Of course I wish we were there longer, but it’s nice to get to do little trips like this. Trading in our winter coats for shorts and flip flops after just a two hour flight. I really do feel lucky to be able to do that and to have friends and family to do it with. It’s moments like these that really matter – spending time with the ones you care about.
