One thing you should know about me is that I love to workout. Another thing you should know is that I love Pilates.

I try to do it once or twice a week at least.

I love taking classes, but I also do it at home when I can’t make a class work.

If the weather is nice I actually prefer to do it on my own because then I get to choose the venue.

Note – scenic views are recommended.

What is Pilates

For those of you who don’t know what Pilates is, let me give you a brief introduction.

Pilates is a type of exercise that focuses on a lot of concentrated movements – kind of like yoga – but Pilates focuses on flexibility, strength, posture, and overall mental health.

Imagine doing a plank for 45 mins to an hour (depending on how long you go for) and that will give you a good idea of what it’s like.

You’re not actually doing a plank the entire time and you work more than just your abs, but what you learn in Pilates is that your body’s strength comes from your core.

Types of Pilates

So there are two types of Pilates out here – mat and bed.

Mat is just using a yoga/Pilates mat. Bed is done with a reformer aka Pilates bed.

Mat is definitely cheaper to do and there tend to be more mat classes offered than bed.

Bed is good if you want to advance to the next level.

Now if you follow Kate Hudson on Instagram like I do you’ll see she posts videos of herself doing Pilates on her reformer that she has at home.

Not all of us have $3k to drop on this equipment, but that’s why there are classes for this that may make more sense for people.

Why I Love Pilates

I am really big into making sure every muscle in my body gets an equal amount of love and attention.

I like to split up my days of working out according to different muscle group.

Pilates is great because it hits so many at once!

Besides your core, Pilates targets your legs, butt, arms, and shoulders

You Understand Pilates… Now What

Well now that you have an idea of what Pilates is, why don’t you try taking classes or better yet, start with some videos to do it at home.

Keep an eye out for some Pilates moves from yours truly.
